Self Portraits- a Quick Primer

A self-portrait is a drawing, painting or photograph of the artist by the artist themselves.

During the mid 15th Century (Early Renaissance) it became a more prominent artform with artists depicting themselves as either the main subject, or as important characters in their work.

Better and cheaper mirrors, and the panel portrait contributed to the significant growth of self-portraiture.
